NFC South Just Got Stronger

Continuing the trade waves started by Jason Taylor going from Miami to the Washington Redskins, today Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that Jeremy Shockey has been traded from the New York Giants to the New Orleans Saints. The Saints gave up a second round and a fifth round pick in exchange for Shockey with all of this pending league approval and Shockey's physical. You have to wonder not only as Jay mentioned, why this trade did no go through before the draft as well as how much stronger this makes the Saints, especially for those of us who are Panthers fans who will now have to play against him twice. His behavior on and off the field at times is questionable but his talent when he gets the ball is not. You just had to know the writing was on the wall when the team not only did not want him on their Super Bowl sidelines and the argument with management. Now with weapons like Shockey and Marques Colston, the Panthers defense will need to step it up big time because with Drew Brees at quarterback and plenty of preseason to work on their timing, this could be dangerous especially as the season goes on,not to mention should Reggie Bush improve as well. I still think Tampa and the Panthers finish as the top two but this trade is huge and could make it a lot closer then I was hoping for.
